Sub:Appeal for help for the Amphan Victims. 

    

Respected Sir,

Through the columns of your esteemed daily , I want to appeal to the public for help to relieve the distress of the people affected by super cyclone ' Amphan ' . We all know that a large scale destruction has been caused by the violent cyclone ' Amphan ' that lashed the eastern coast of India and Bangladesh on May 20 , 2020. It was one of the strongest storms on record in the last two decades in the Bay of Bengal , with sustained windspeed of 165 km per hour . In West Bengal the districts which bear the brunt of the monster storm's impact are West and East Midnapore , North and South Parganas . Nadia , Hooghly and Howrah besides the state capital , Kolkata . So far 128 people have lost their lives . About 2.7 million houses have been damaged , partially or completely . Telecommunication systems are down in many areas , electricity cut off and thousands of roads , bridges and jetties lie ravaged . Crops are standing submerged under waist - high water and all arterial roads are blocked by the uprooted trees and electric posts . More than 88,000 hectres of paddy might be lost , along with 1 lakh hectres of vegetables and 1 lakh hectres of sesame . Millions of homeless people have lost their livelihoods and are clamouring for food , shelter and clothing . The cost of damage , as calculated by the Bengal Government , stands at Rs . 1 lakh 3,000 crore . Indeed a huge fund is necessary for the rehabilitation of the Amphan - stricken people and it cannot be provided by the Government alone .

I, therefore request you for initiation of a relief   fund in your office inviting people to contribute to it liberally.
